The Door

This is the piece the church comissioned for Easter. It was somewhat inspired by my collection of iconic religious art (o.k., the really gaudy stuff), and incorporates a found object. My photo is too dark/far to show the stars in the background, but you can get the gist... Here is the info:

Mixed Media on Door

Luke 23:46, "Jesus called out with a loud voice, 'Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.' When he had said this, he breathed his last.“

The vastness of God is represented by the juxtaposition of God's hands in perspective to the Earth and the Universe (Ephesians 4:10). The rays of light represent Christ as the light of the world (John 1: 4-14). Christ's crucifixion is illustrated by the cross, and his blood is covering the Earth in atonement for our sin. The flames represent the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. The flames and the smoke also represent a burnt offering to God, which was commanded by God to the Israelites for consecration of the priests before they could begin their ministry, and as atonement for sins (Exodus 29), foreshadowing Christ's ultimate sacrifice (Hebrews 9:1-15).
The door itself is a further illustration of the verses on the back (Revelation 3:19-21 and Matthew 7:7-8) which call us to open ourselves to God, emphasizing the importance of seeking God as well as God seeking us.

The Little Artists

With all the wonderful Spring weather we've been having lately, I decided to let the boys paint outside. This was Troy's first solo art project, and he certainly got creative in exploring the medium!
Grant loves running around in his nothing but his "big boy pants" these days (actually, he prefers to wear nothing at all!), so he was feeling particularly creative today...
Troy enjoyed painting himself more than the paper, but Grant has always been my "serious" artist -- painting is one of his favorite activities. However, he always makes sure he gets plenty messy and has plenty of fun!

We love art!

Our Blog's Maiden Voyage...

This is the very first posting for the Kim family blog EVER! I am so excited about this new tool of communication and connection in our wild era of Internet technology -- it's about time we jumped in! I hope our postings will stay fresh and new as well, and help us keep our friends and family updated on all our latest milestones. The boys are growing and changing so fast, it is hard for us to keep up with them! More postings will follow as time allows.

These photos are from our trip to the Atlanta zoo in April, showing the wild baby birds in their natural habitats. As is commonly seen in this flock, the smallest one was attempting to flee from captivity! The boys definitely rule this roost!
